The New Stobhill Hospital opens its doors to patients for the first time on Monday 11th May.

The brand-new £100 million hospital will be one of the most modern and well equipped in Scotland.

And for the first time, patients from North Glasgow, East Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire requiring an MRI scan will be able to have this performed locally at the hospital.
A new state-of-the-art MRI scanner was today successfully installed this week after much of careful planning.

Installation of the scanner was a major logistical exercise which involved the new scanner being hoisted into the air by a massive crane so that it could be placed into position on one of the hospital’s upper floors.

Once the new hospital is up and running it is estimated that some 16 patients a day will use the scanner.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s, Margaret Campbell, who is in change of commissioning the new hospital, was on site today to oversee the MRI installation. She said: “We are delighted that this major piece of equipment has been successfully installed. This installation is particularly exciting as it is the first time that the Stobhill site will have access to MRI scanning.

“The installation of this MRI marks the beginning of a major process to commission the new Hospital. Over the coming months we will be moving hundreds of staff and items of clinical equipment and emptying 3500 packing crates into 1250 new rooms. Services will therefore be moving into the hospital on a phased basis over a number of weeks.”
