NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) is keen to hear local people's ideas on the design of the new children’s hospital.

People in Greenock can get involved in shaping the new children’s hospital and some of the Project Team will be on hand with information on the early plans for the new hospital at Oak Mall Shopping Centre next week.

Our representatives will be at the Oak Mall Shopping Centre, Greenock on Thursday, December 3, 2009 between 10am and 3pm with information on the early plans for the new build.

They’ll be available to chat with at the shopping mall next Thursday, December 3rd between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm and are hoping locals will come along to find out how they can get involved with the meetings and discussions on the plans for the new hospital.

NHSGGC have already been working closely with families, children and young people in the design of the new hospital to ensure it offers not just the best clinical treatment, but also a warm, friendly and supportive place in which to get better.

Kate Munro, Community Engagement Manager for NHSGGC, said: “We’ve already had a number of great ideas put forward by families, children and young people who use the existing children’s hospital at Yorkhill…ideas that our planners are already taking on board.

“We’re keen to ensure that as many people as possible have their say, which is why we’ve organised this event.

“This is a great opportunity for the people of Greenock to be involved and we’re looking forward to meeting you.”

Notes for Editors:
What will the new hospital be like?
The new Children’s Hospital will provide state-of-the-art medical care for children in a safe, child-friendly environment.

Based on the Southern General site in Govan, the new hospital will have a total of 256 beds over five storeys and these will be a mix of four-bed and single-bed accommodation.

To ensure the best care for new babies and mothers, the new children’s hospital will be physically linked to the refurbished maternity unit and new adult hospital.

And early designs also include a covered roof garden where young patients can enjoy a range of activities in the fresh air including their own stage where they can put on shows.

How can I get involved?
There are a number of ways you can get involved in the planning for the new hospital including: a Family Panel; a Youth Panel; public events; our website:; regular surveys and focus groups; a newsletter; briefings to community groups; the Community Engagement Advisory Panel.
