NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Response to Unison Car Parking Claims

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) absolutely refute the allegations which have been made by UNISON.  Across NHSGGC hospitals there are safe and robust arrangements for cardiac arrest teams to get to emergency situations. We are shocked that UNISON have suggested otherwise and that they have sought to alarm and distress patients in this irresponsible way, to pursue their campaign against the car parking policy.

The policy ensures that any member of staff who requires to park on our sites to carry out the responsibilities of their post will have a parking permit and that patients also have priority to access designated car parks.

It is also wrong and misleading to suggest that hospital staff are being penalised by the four hour maximum stay. The four hour maximum stay does not apply to any hospital staff car park but applies only to patient and visitor car parking areas. Further, the vast majority of patient and visitors will be unaffected by the four hour stay because there are very few occasions where a patient or visitor would need to park at the hospital for any more than four hours. We have however made it clear that any patient or visitor with a valid reason for needed to park for more than four hours will be able to do so.
