Service 29, which historically terminated at High Possil, was extended to serve the hospital from 18 February 2008.

The extension of Service 29 is the first improvement to be announced in an ongoing effort by First in Glasgow and NHSGGC to increase direct bus services to the hospital in the North side of the City. Service 29 joins Service 3 in directly serving the hospital.

This improvement is also seen as a further step in First’s commitment to providing strong links to healthcare for local communities across Greater Glasgow.

First, Alex Shearer, joined Chris Drapper, Transport Projects Manager for NHSGGC, Eleanor Bryce, Hospital Manager of Stobhill Hospital and Brian Hazlet, Director of First Forum (an organisation which, amongst other aims, seeks improved access to healthcare for those with physical or mental disabilities) in celebrating the improved access.

The improved access sees First Service 29 extended from High Possil via Shillay Street, Colston Road and Balgrayhill Road to Stobhill Hospital.

"The Board are also investing in the infrastructure to accommodate improved bus access.

"We welcome First Bus plans to improve routes to Stobhill Hospital. We have been working very closely with the Company to launch the new and improved routes, by listening to their requirements and building these, where possible, into the Stobhill site.

"Service 29 has been introduced in addition to the existing Service 3 as a direct link to the hospital with discussions continuing to introduce further services in the future."

Alex welcomed the introduction; “We have been working closely with Niall and Chris Drapper at  NHSGGC with a view to implementing services which will have the most benefit to those traveling to Stobhill Hospital.

The launch was the public acknowledgement of the discussions that have taken place between
First’s Executive Director Alex Shearer and Niall McGrogan, Head of Community Engagement and Transport for NHSGGC.
