Five Scabies Cases in Ward at Glasgow Royal Infirmary

February 08, 2008 11:35 AM

Four members of staff and one patient on a ward at Glasgow Royal Infirmary have been confirmed as suffering from the skin condition scabies.

Diagnoses were confirmed yesterday afternoon and the treatment of all those people affected is expected to begin today. As a precaution, treatment is also being offered to all other staff and patients on the ward, and to close contacts of the five people who have been diagnosed.

All necessary infection control measures have been immediately implemented and strict precautions are in place to limit the spread of the infection, including the wearing of standard healthcare workers' protective clothing and the temporary suspension of new patient admissions.
