A new outreach dental clinic is offering free courses of dental treatment to local residents in the Yoker area.
The new clinic has been established as a joint project between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) and the University of Glasgow Dental Hospital and School.
Offering treatment at the new clinic will be dental students who will provide dental care for patients including fillings, crowns, extractions and routine treatment. Patients will be assessed at their first appointment and a course of treatment will be undertaken free of charge by the students.
The dental students are all in their final year and are supervised by a fully qualified dentist who has overall responsibility for dental care.
The clinic will be open between 9.00 am and 2.30 pm for both appointments and drop in consultations. Outwith these hours no service will be offered and cosmetic procedures are not carried out as part of the service.
Kevin Hill, Director of Oral Health, said: “This modern eight chair dental clinic is a result of joint planning involving Glasgow University, NES and our Oral Health Directorate to enable future dental students experience community dentistry in a local facility.
“A capital investment of £2million was provided by NHSGGC and the Scottish Government Health Department to fund this clinic which will serve the Yoker area.
“The clinic is part of a West Glasgow Community Health and Care Partnership facility who were actively involved in setting up the clinic.”
