NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde and NHS Ayrshire & Arran have joined forces to launch a care sharing scheme for their staff.
Staff from both NHS Boards can now register for the West of Scotland NHS Car Sharing Scheme run by Liftshare.
Liftshare is the UK’s leading provider of car sharing systems and offers an online system that will allow staff to register their journeys and save up to £1000 a year on their travel to work.
Carsten Mandt, Regional Transport to Health Project Manager, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde thinks this is an excellent opportunity for staff.
He said: “Car sharing is something that more and more people are taking up and we hope our staff will find this scheme of benefit.
“It helps the environment by reducing carbon emissions, road congestion and can help reduce travel costs. Another advantage is it frees up car parking spaces for patients and visitors at NHS sites.
NHS Lanarkshire is also due to join the West of Scotland NHS Car Sharing Scheme at the end of October.
Notes to Editors
Liftshare was set up in 1998 with the initial aim of making more efficient use of the millions of empty car seats on UK roads by encouraging and enabling more people to share their car journeys.
Their aim is to encourage and enable more efficient travel and transport by helping individuals to find travel companions and offering them a choice of more sustainable travel modes.
