NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Statement on Diarrhoea and Vomiting

September 25, 2007 10:41 AM

Three wards at the Southern General Hospital in Glasgow are not admitting new patients due to an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting.

19 patients at the hospital have been affected although only three remain symptomatic (continuing to experience diarrhoea and vomiting).  Doctors at the hospital said today that none are giving cause for concern as a result of the infection.

Tom Walsh, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Infection Control Manager and Chair of the Southern’s Outbreak Control Team, said: “Staff at the Southern General have put in place all the relevant control measures to limit the spread of the infection.

"We are monitoring the situation around the clock and investigations into the cause of the outbreak are continuing.”
