Renfrew Health and Social Work Centre Gets Green Light

November 07, 2007 12:03 PM

Renfrewshire Council and health chiefs have welcomed news of another milestone in the drive to improve the health and well-being of Renfrew
residents, after the proposed, Renfrew Health and Social Work Centre got the green light from Council planners.
Work on the new centre is now due to start at the end of July 2008 and is expected to be finished by the end of December 2009.
Councillor Mackay said, “The Council and its partners are investing over £4 million in regenerating Renfrew’s town centre. This health and social work centre is further evidence of our commitment to the area and a major investment in the wellbeing of Renfrew’s residents.
“The new centre will be able to deliver a complete health and social work service which is more accessible and which meets the changing needs of the community.”
David Leese, Director of the Renfrewshire Community Health Partnership (CHP) on behalf of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, said, “We welcome this announcement as another key step forward to deliver a larger and modern
purpose-built centre to provide a wide range of health and social services for the people of Renfrew. We will continue to work with our partners in social care to draw up the fine detail of how the centre will operate in time for its scheduled opening in late 2009.”
The new centre brings local social work and health services together under one roof. The new building will be home to all four of Renfrew’s existing GP surgeries and the following services: occupational therapy, childcare, homecare, community care, criminal justice, physiotherapy and foot care plus health visitors and district nursing teams.
New housing developments are expected to grow Renfrew’s population by some 20% over the next 10 years and the existing health centre doesn’t have the capacity to cope with a population of this size.
