Older people are being invited to take part in activities from line dancing to salsa at the fourth ‘Celebration of Ageing Event', which will take place on Thursday 28 September at Abbotsford Church Hall.

The event is there to let people know what support and opportunities there are in the community for older people and it is a chance for people to meet old and new friends and to try out different activities.

Activities on the day will range from line dancing and salsa to tai chi and seated exercises. There will also be a cookery/healthy eating demonstration and a chance for people to try out alternative therapies and join in a short ‘Paths to Health' walk.

Character actor John Murtagh is lending his support to the event by coming along on the day.John plays taxi driver George Henderson in the popular TV soap River City.

Frances Rankin, Development Officer for Promoting Health in Older People said, "This is the fourth Celebration of Ageing event and this year local people have really helped shape the programme by telling us what they want to try.

"Last year the up take of the event was great with more than 250 people attending and many went on to take up the activities demonstrated and join computer and art classes and volunteering opportunities.

"We are hoping that a number of people will try out the new activities we have on offer as well as having a relaxing alternative therapy."

This year there are 30 different agencies and groups providing information on a wide range of issues that can affect older people's health and well-being.
