NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is this morning launching a brand new centre for sexual, emotional and reproductive health in the grounds of Inverclyde Royal Hospital. The new Sandyford Inverclyde is being officially opened by Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil.
The latest in a series of satellite clinics of the award-winning Sandyford Initiative, Sandyford Inverclyde is the first such "hub" to be opened in the Clyde area of the newly expanded health board. Bringing together a wide range of services under one roof, the project represents a substantial investment and commitment to improving sexual and reproductive health within Inverclyde. A number of groundbreaking services are being made available under one roof for the first time at Sandyford Inverclyde, including counselling, free internet access and a library.
Dr Alison Bigrigg, Clinical Director of the Sandyford Initiative, said: "This new service extends the provision of sexual, reproductive and emotional healthcare within Inverclyde. Instead of having a number of different facilities on different sites, the opening of Sandyford Inverclyde today means services will be available three full days a week and all on one site.
"We've assembled a fantastic team to work here and everyone is enormously committed to bringing the best of the care we provide at the city centre Sandyford to Inverclyde."
Greenock and Inverclyde MSP Duncan McNeil said: "Accessible, joined-up health services deliver the best quality of treatment for patients. I am therefore delighted to be opening this new facility which brings together a range of important, linked services right in the heart of our community."
The new facility brings together and builds upon the existing family planning and genitourinary medicine services which were based at Inverclyde Royal Hospital. In addition, specialist medical gynaecology, generic and psychosexual counselling, information and library facilities will all be available to patients.
Care and support for sexually transmitted infections, on-site testing and treatment, advice, information and support will all be available free and confidentially at Sandyford Inverclyde. The facility is the third in the series of Sandyford "hubs" to be opened across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. These clinics are expanding the range of sexual health care available from the traditional focus on reproductive care for women and beginning to reach more men and young people.
Dedicated help can be accessed at priority sessions for men, women and young people. Sandyford Inverclyde is open three days a week offering help on an appointment or drop-in basis.
