Four wards at the Victoria Infirmary are not admitting new patients due to incidences of diarrhoea and vomiting. Eighteen patients are currently showing symptoms.

It is routine procedure for wards not to admit new patients as a precautionary measure when three or more people display symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting.

Dr Stan Murray, Consultant in Public Health Medicine with NHS Greater Glasgow, said: "Staff in the hospital have put in place all the relevant control measures to limit the spread of the illness and we are working closely with the hospital infection control team to monitor the situation."
