One ward has re-opened at the Victoria Infirmary, leaving three still closed to new admissions due to diarrhoea and vomiting.

Eight patients are currently showing symptoms – a reduction of five from Saturday.

Dr Syed Ahmed, Consultant in Public Health Medicine with NHS Greater Glasgow, said: "It is routine procedure for wards not to admit new patients as a precautionary measure when three or more people display symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting.

"The situation at the Victoria is reflective of what is happening in the community which has also seen a rise in the number of cases of diarrhoea and vomiting.

"Staff in the hospital have put the relevant measures in place to limit spread, and we are working closely with the hospital infection control team to monitor the situation."
