Three Wards at the Victoria Infirmary have been closed to new admissions due to suspected Winter Vomiting Virus. One ward was closed to new admissions on Saturday 28 February 2004 and two further wards were closed to new admissions today. Seven patients are today showing symptoms. None are giving cause for concern.
The normal extra infection control precautions have been out in place.
Dr Syed Ahmed, Consultant in Public Health Medicine, said "Wards have been closed as a precautionary measure. This is not unusual for this time of the year. We are working closely with the hospital infection control team to monitor the situation".
