Three wards at the Mansionhouse Unit are closed to new admissions due to the Winter Vomiting Virus.  28 patients and four staff have shown symptoms.

One ward was closed to new admissions on Saturday, December 20, 2003 and two further wards were closed to new admissions today.

The normal infection control measures have been put in place.

Dr Syed Ahmed, Consultant in Public Health Medicine, said: "The onset of sudden diarrhoea or vomiting is not unusual for this time of the year.  We are working closely with the hospital infection control team to monitor the situation. 

"The wards have been closed as a precautionary measure."
