Emergency Care and Trauma

Emergency Care and Trauma is health care which cannot reasonably be foreseen or planned in advance. It is urgent care that can occur any time and services must be available 24 hours a day seven days a week.   Emergency care is for patients suffering serious illnesses such as heart attacks, strokes etc or traumatic injuries such as car accidents, assault or abuse.  Emergency and Trauma Care also includes accidents that need stitches, X-rays or plastered.  These may not be as urgent but can happen at any time.

Scope of Review:

This group will consider the emergency / unscheduled patient pathways including:

  • GP Out of Hours Services, Minor Injuries and the A&E service
  • Emergency medical and surgical pathways including major trauma care pathways.
