This year’s programme, 1st September 2016 - 31st August 2017, is targeting people aged 70 yrs (routine), 76 yrs (catch-up) and 77 and 78 yrs (continued catch-up) as per CMO letter
Table 1 presents the Shingles vaccine uptake by age cohort and NHS board compared to Scotland figure (provisional data to end of December 2016) for those aged 70, 76, 77 and 78 years old. Vaccine coverage is lower than at the corresponding time period in previous seasons. A similar decrease in vaccine uptake is also reported by Public Health England.

A screening tool (2017) has been developed to support healthcare practitioners in the identification of patients for whom the shingles vaccine is contra-indicated.
Non-NHS nurses who are administering vaccine to adults with incapacity in care homes should be aware of the Care Inspectorate Recommendations governing consent.
