How to Refer - urgent and non-urgent

We accept referrals from hospital consultants, nurse specialists, allied health professionals and locality CAMHS. All referrals should be directed to the Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry Business Support Team in the first instance - 0141 451 6529 (86529 for internal calls).  

Urgent Referrals

It is expected that urgent referrals will be made via telephone contact. The team offers an on-call service Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. If an urgent psychiatric response is specifically required and cannot be achieved within team working hours, the referral is passed to the Out of Hours duty clinician available via RHC switchboard (0141 201 0000).

When making an urgent referral, please provide the following information: patient’s full name, CHI/DOB, ward/location, named consultant, reason for admission and mental health concerns.

* Urgent referrals are seen within 24 hours  

Non-Urgent Referrals

For non-urgent referrals, we require that referrers provide the following essential written details: patient’s full name, CHI/DOB, ward if inpatient, named consultant, reason for referral and aims of referral. The Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry Business Support Team will provide a referral pro-forma for completion to action referral. The team meets weekly on Wednesday morning to review new referrals and discuss appropriateness.

Out of Hours Services

Outwith the Paediatric Liaison Psychiatry working hours, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm, emergency referrals should be directed to the Out of Hours duty clinician, accessed by phoning RHC switchboard on 0141 201 0000 (1000 for internal calls).
