Someone from the hospital who is looking after you asked us to help you and your family.
We know that problems with health can be especially hard and can sometimes get in the way of school, friendships and other relationships. Feelings such as sadness, worry, frustration and anger can also come along with illness.
When problems are causing upset or worry in the family it can help to talk about them with someone else.

We want to get to know you, so we will ask you some questions, listen to you and talk with your family. We will want to hear about your interests, the things you are good at, and the things that are troubling you. Sometimes it helps to play or draw while you talk and listen.
Sometimes we will speak to your school to find out how things are for you in school, and to help them know how to support you. From time to time, we will let your GP and care team at the hospital know how you are getting on.

• If you are a patient in the hospital, we will come to your ward.
• If you are at home, we will see you in our clinic at the Royal Hospital for Children.
• Sometimes we will visit your school to see if we can help there. We would talk to you about this first.

We will work together to understand the problems and find ways to help you cope. Sometimes we may help your parents and sometimes we may work with you.

We may teach you new skills, such as problem-solving and how to relax when you are worried. We may help you find ways of letting people know how you are feeling and what they can do to help.

In our sessions we may draw, play games or just talk. You can let us know what feels easiest for you.
