Blood Tests

If your doctor suspects that you have had a TIA or if you have had a stroke you will receive a blood test.

Blood tests help doctors to understand why you may have had a stroke and will include a cholesterol test, a blood sugar test (to check for diabetes) and a blood count test (to check if you are anaemic or if your blood is too thick).

You might have blood tests done to see how well your kidneys or liver are working.

Sometimes more specialist tests will be carried out, but this doesn't happen very often – if you don't know what your blood is being checked for, ask your doctor – it is your body and you have a right to know.
