The Glasgow & Clyde Weight Management Service uses Cognitive Behavioural principles. Adding behavioural approaches to dietary interventions leads to more weight loss than dieting alone.
Behavioural approaches may also be called Psychological
approaches as they also include changing thinking patterns and feelings as well as habits and behaviours.
Some psychological approaches to weight management are:
- Self monitoring involves keeping a record of information relevant to your weight, such as your food intake, activity levels and mood.
- It is often useful to understand and overcome the triggers to unhelpful behaviours such as over eating.
- Our thoughts often affect our behaviour and how we feel which can influence our weight.
- Goal Setting

- Being Assertive
- Changing Habits
