Clinical Governance

The Clinical Governance Support Unit (CGSU) is a Board-wide resource providing advice, education and practical support to develop safer and more effective healthcare in NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, both in acute services as well as in partnerships.

What We Can Do For You

CGSU staff can help you with a range of issues around clinical effectiveness, evidence-based practice, clinical risk management, complaints management (partnerships only), or patient involvement (partnerships only). The things we can do for you include, for example:

Supporting clinical audit, service evaluation and service redesign by quality improvement through facilitating projects, advising on methodology, designing data collection forms and data bases, data analysis, and report writing. We also offer training for staff on these topics.

Supporting clinical risk management and patient safety through advice and training on risk management systems and processes, facilitating the use of risk registers, managing clinical incident review systems, and sharing information on clinical risk management and patient safety.

Support for national programmes e.g. cancer audits, and the development and implementation of integrated care pathways (lCPs). 

Dissemination of national guidance such as SIGN guidelines, NHS HIS standards or NPSA Patient Safety Alerts, and supporting, monitoring and reporting on their implementation.

Collating information and producing reports on clinical governance to support managers, lead clinicians and relevant committees.
