Staff Lottery draws to a close

Following a review by the Appeals Society Management Committee (who operate the Staff Lottery) they have decided, regrettably, to cease the lottery in its current form from April 2015.

It has been a difficult decision for the Appeals Society Management Committee to take but it was felt necessary due to various factors.

This means that the April draw will take place as normal but that there will be no further deductions from pay following the deductions taken in March.

With the organisational changes taking place across the Board area, almost all of the Committee members will be undertaking different roles in the future as a result of the introduction of Integrated Joint Boards (IJBs) and the restructuring process between Acute Services and the Board. The Committee members do not feel confident they would be able to support and give sufficient time to the work of the Appeals Society and Lottery over the coming year.

Over recent years the proceeds from the Lottery have exceeded the value of applications for funding received, making it difficult to justify the continuation of the Lottery on the current scale. Our intention is to review with the NHS Board how the lottery might be delivered in the future on a slightly different basis. Options include extension to cover all staff of the future Integrated Boards and/or specific more focussed arrangements for areas of Acute Services and the Board.

We wish to thank staff for their support of the lottery over the last 20 years and acknowledge that funding submissions made have provided significant improvement to facilities for patients and staff.  We would encourage all staff and groups associated with the NHS to continue to develop significant proposals which will allow us to spend the accumulated funds wisely on sustainable activities or projects which deliver real benefits to patients and staff.

The next round of bids for funding are invited to be submitted by 31 May with the hope that decisions on these will be made in June. Staff and patient representative groups are encouraged to be innovative in their bids. Should advice be required on the suitability of any proposed bids please enquire via: [email protected]
