Step 2 Advertising and Applicant Management

Content of Advert

All adverts  should  contain  a summary  of the  role being  advertised, information  about  the minimum skills needed for the  role & grade specific entry requirements, necessary membership of professional bodies, and  some information about the  department.  If the  information  in the  advert  is  correct applicants  will  know  by  reading the advert  whether  they  have the  skills and qualifications  to apply  for the  position. Additional information is also useful such as whether the building or the equipment new, what  is the  team  structure, what  support  will they  have, educational opportunities and what support will they be required to give. 

Media Selection and Options

All posts will be advertised in the on the NHS Scotland Job Portal – Show site and Job Centre Plus. Our standard advert time is 2 weeks but this can be amended for high response positions or for professional journals with monthly publications.  Standard advertising time for medical posts is 4 calendar weeks to comply with the resident labour market requirement for immigration purposes.  All medical posts are advertised on NHSGGC's Medical Microsite.  Only in exceptional circumstances will budget be allocated to allow it to proceed to immediate external media/web page such as hard to fill or specialist posts.  The recruitment service will be happy to assist with options for additional media advertising, where appropriate. Media choices must be relevant to the target candidate market and must be cost effective in relation to the post being advertised.  

Candidate Information Packs

Candidate information packs are created based on the information you have provided on the vacancy request form and Job Description. Candidate Information Packs are required for every post that we advertise and they provide the information that applicants will need in order to apply for the post. It includes information on how to complete the application form, a job description and person specification (if available). It also details the terms and conditions for the post. It is available to prospective candidates for the vacancies advertised on the NHS Scotland website Jobs page www.jobs.scot.nhs.uk

Candidate Application process

Candidates are required to complete an Online Application Form accessed via the NHS Scotland Jobs website www.jobs.scot.nhs.uk (SHOW). The Online Application Form ensure all applicants are considered on an equal basis.  This includes a Statement in Support of Application which provides an opportunity to submit specific information indicating how the candidate meets the essential criteria identified in the Person Specification. It also allows additional information about the candidate's career to date. Candidates will also be asked to provide details of referees, covering at least 3 years worth of employment and education and training.  

Applicants to medical posts will be required to submit, via email, a completed application, along with a CV and Fitness to Practice form to [email protected]  If shortlisted for a medical post, referees will be contacted ahead of interview.
