Return to Work Discussion

A Return to Work discussion must be carried out by the appropriate line manager following each episode of sickness absence. This discussion should occur on the date of the employees return to work. A completed copy of the form (Return to Work Discussion Template) should be signed and dated by both the line manager and employee and placed in the employee’s personal file.

When an employee has had a 4th episode of sickness absence within a rolling 12 month period this will be highlighted to the employee at the Return to Work discussion. The employee should be advised that, as a result of reaching a trigger, they will be invited to a Formal Absence Review meeting with one potential outcome being the case is referred for consideration at a disciplinary hearing.
