Nominations

Nominations are to be made by email to Health&[email protected] . The nomination form can be obtained by clicking the following link:

Acceptance onto a course will be confirmed to the nominating person, who will be responsible for ensuring relevant details of the course are communicated to the delegate. If the course is full and the nomination unable to be accepted, the nominating person will be informed.

Records

Attendance will be recorded on Empower. In addition, each Local Manager has a duty to keep a record of who has attended training. To assist with this, if a delegate does not attend, the nominating person will be contacted within 24 hours to inform them of the non-attendance.  For our own records, Health and Safety Services will request a reason for non-attendance.

Courses

The following guidance is provided to assist managers in identifying who should attend Health and Safety Training Courses. The following courses are not general safety awareness courses for staff. The courses are designed to facilitate the Health and Safety Management Manual holder to undertake the duties required within the manual. In general, the manual holder should undertake a training needs analysis to identify whether there is a need for a staff member to take on the role(s) described below and if so, how many staff are required.

All delegates should have a good knowledge of their work area and the tasks being undertaken, this knowledge will be used for exercises undertaken during the course(s). All delegates should bring with them the relevant pre course documentation available from the links within each course description. Courses available:


Health & Safety Management Manual

This course is for Health & Safety Management Manual holders and where identified their deputies. The manual holder will normally be a manager or supervisor with responsibility for the management of health and safety within their area of work.

Risk Assessment

This course is for staff who have been asked to conduct workplace risk assessments by the H&S Management Manual holder. The course will provide the delegate with a general awareness of how to undertake a generic risk assessment, the awareness gained will supplement the workplace knowledge the delegate has in assisting them with the risk assessment process. The delegate, by attending this course, agrees to undertake risk assessments as directed by their Manager.

Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Assessors

This course is for staff who have been designated as the COSHH Assessor by the H&S Management Manual holder for the area they work in. The delegate will be expected to undertake COSHH risk assessments when they have completed this course. It would be expected that generally only one COSHH Assessor would be required in any one area covered by a H&S Management Manual with the potential for this role to be shared between areas.

Display Screen Assessment (DSE) Assessors

This course is for staff who have been designated as the DSE Assessor by the H&S Management Manual holder for the area they work in. The delegate will be expected to undertake DSE risk assessments when they have completed this course. It would be expected that generally only one DSE assessor would be required in any one area covered by a H&S Management Manual, with the potential for this role to be shared between areas.

Face Fit Testers for FFP3 Respirators

This course is for staff identified to undertake the role of a face fit tester. The need for which is expressed through a clinical risk assessment, which has identified the need for FFP3 oral nasal disposable mask respiratory protection to be used against respiratory borne pathogens. To use these masks, relevant staff must be ‘face fit tested’ to ensure that they can achieve a suitable face fit of the mask and that it operates at the required efficiency.

This 3.5 hour course is designed to ensure that the candidates selected to become face fit testers are provided both with the background knowledge and the practical skills set out in the HSE document 282-28, a copy of which can be found below. It is asked that candidates familiarise themselves with this document prior to attendance.
