Report Number: 201200306 Report Date: 23/01/2013     Scottish Public Services Ombudsman Overview
The complainant (Mrs C) raised a number of concerns about the care and treatment provided to her late husband (Mr C) by Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board Acute Services Division (the Board).

In response to the SPSO report: NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Director of Nursing for the acute division Rory Farrelly said:  “We have received the Ombudsman’s Report and accept the recommendations made by him.   “We fully accept that in this case there were lessons to be learned from this family’s experience and that the standards of care we strive to achieve for our patients fell short.  Dignity, respect and good communications are fundamental principles of good nursing care and we fully expect our staff to continually aspire to offer the very best care to all our patients.   “We have already initiated a number of actions to improve communications between staff and patients and their families, and we will act on the recommendations made by the Ombudsman.    “We will now take this opportunity to write to the family and apologise.”
