Welcome to the West of Scotland Regional Genetics Service

                  

The Duncan Guthrie Institute of Medical Genetics and the Ferguson-Smith Centre for Clinical Genetics are situated within the Yorkhill Hospitals' site and have close links with both the Paediatric and Maternity specialties. The Institute has in-house laboratory facilities for Biochemical, Molecular and Cytogenetic analyses. 


The Ferguson-Smith Centre for Clinical Genetics sees increasing numbers of patients and their families every year for genetic counselling at general genetics clinics, cancer genetic clinics and specialist genetic clinics both within the Centre itself and at a number of community locations throughout the West of Scotland.


Both departments have close links with the University of Glasgow Campus at Yorkhill where NHS staff are involved in the teaching and supervision of both undergraduate and postgraduate genetics courses. Further information on the University Department of Medical Genetics can be found at www.gla.ac.uk/medicalgenetics
