A&E and Minor Injuries Services are available in a number of locations. Use our postcode finder to see which is the right one for you.

Finding your way inside

Despite its size, this huge hospital has been designed to make it very easy for you to get to your destination. From the hi-tech touch screen information points and the barcode self check-in to the friendly faces of our guiding volunteers and landmark artworks at key points throughout the hospital …everything is geared towards making it simple to get around.

Outpatient check-in

As an outpatient you can check in using the letter we sent you when you arrive – just like at the airport. Scan in your hospital letter at one of the scanning check-in points, confirm your details and you’ll be shown where to go next. It’s a really easy system to use but if you prefer one of our friendly volunteers will be happy to help. When you arrive at your outpatient waiting room, keep an eye on the screen – it will call you to your clinic room.

Lift system

There are four wards on each level: A, B, C and D. Wards A and B are accessed by the lifts sign posted as Arran on the ground floor; and wards C and D are accessed by the lifts sign posted as Bute. These lifts use smart technology to get you to the ward you want as quickly as possible. You press the button panel outside the lift and it will direct you to the best lift for you. All you need to do next is to get inside the lift and it will take you to the correct floor. There are no buttons inside the lift.

Accident and Emergency Department (A&E)

Entrance from Langlands Drive (opposite Car Park 3).

A&E and Minor Injuries Services are available in a number of locations. Use our postcode finder to see which is the right one for you.

This is an Emergency Department. We prioritise people who have a serious injury or accident or who have a sudden serious illness or medical condition. It may be more appropriate and you may be seen more quickly by your GP or another health care professional rather than waiting for treatment here.

If you think that someone's life is at risk you should call 999 right away.

You can attend your local Minor Injury Unit (MIU) to get urgent care for a minor injury including sprains, burns and simple fractures. MIUs are run by highly experienced Emergency Nurse Practitioners who will assess and either treat a minor injury or, if they find a more serious problem, arrange for you to be transferred elsewhere.

Children with serious illnesses and injuries who are less than one year of age should be taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Glasgow. Children from one year on should either go to your local A&E department or to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

You can find out more about which conditions may be seen and treated more quickly elsewhere from our Know who to turn to pages.

This is a smoke free hospital campus.

Spiritual Care - Sanctuary Tel: 0141 452 3221 / 0

The Healthcare Chaplains for The Queen Elizabeth University Hospital can be contacted on 0141 452 3221 / 0.

The Sanctuary is on level 1, next to Bute (Lift and Stair) and is open at all times for patients, visitors and staff.  It is a peaceful, intimate space for meditation, reflection and prayer.  It is designed to be inclusive of all faiths and beliefs and a range of spiritual and religious resources are available (including an ablutions room.)

The Chaplains’ Offices are next to the Sanctuary.

The Chaplaincy Service delivers spiritual and religious care to all people.  Spiritual care addresses the fundamental human need to have a sense of peace, security and hope particularly in the context of injury, illness or loss.  Healthcare Chaplains do this by being attentive to the patient’s story, looking for sources of strength and resilience, valuing the person and what is most important to them. Religious care can be a crucial aspect of this.  Healthcare Chaplains work with other NHS staff to ensure that these needs are met and, where appropriate, in partnership with local faith and belief groups.

We regard Spiritual Care as an intrinsic part of the holistic care provided to patients, and to those who care for them. To this end our Chaplaincy Service provides or facilitates spiritual and religious care for patients, clients, carers and staff.

What do chaplains do?

  • Chaplains take time to listen, non-judgementally and with compassion
  • respect and support everyone’s faith or doubts, beliefs or non-belief
  • are interested in each person’s story
  • provide rituals or ceremonies at significant times which help people to deal with change and loss
  • support and train NHS staff and others in understanding spiritual care and related matters

Local faith community leaders have an important role to play in ensuring that patients who belong to their community have their particular religious needs met.  A leaflet giving information and guidance for faith and belief community leaders on visiting hospitals is available here.

For general enquiries about Healthcare Chaplaincy in NHSGGC you may contact the Head of Chaplaincy and Spiritual Care tel: 0141 452 3220 or email us at [email protected]

If you are contacting the Chaplaincy Service about a patient in one of our hospitals, please ensure, if possible, that the patient is aware of this and has agreed to it.

An NHS Healthcare Chaplain is always on-call and ward staff can arrange for them to be paged.  A Roman Catholic Priest is also available at all times.
