This is an Emergency Department. We prioritise people who have a serious injury or accident or who have a sudden serious illness or medical condition. It may be more appropriate and you may be seen more quickly by your GP or another health care professional rather than waiting for treatment here.

If you think that someone's life is at risk you should call 999 right away.

Children with serious illnesses and injuries who are less than one year of age should be taken to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Yorkhill, Glasgow. Children from one year on should either go to your local A&E department or to the Royal Hospital for Sick Children.

The Paediatric Acute Assessment Unit relocated to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley on 28 January 2007. The unit offers 24 hour, 7-day-a-week care. There is no change to emergency care and children across Inverclyde may continue to access full A&E services at the IRH. Routine appointments for day surgery and outpatient services continue to be provided locally. There will be an expanded range of community nursing services to provide more support to families at home, particularly to parents of children with complex needs and chronic illnesses. This will include additional nurse led clinics.

The Inverclyde hospital sanctuary is on level E, room E52. There is a book of remembrance and a book availalbe to write prayers. A range of Holy books / prayers is also provided as well as prayer mats. The sanctuary is available for use by all patients, relatives and staff. The Chaplaincy office is opposite the sanctuary, Room E51.

F South is home to Oncology Day Case services.

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde out-of-hours service provides GP services to all practices in Glasgow and Clyde out-of-hours. Please do not attend the out-of-hours service without calling NHS 24 first.

Paediatric Day Case Service is on L North.

Pain Clinic- provides an out patient service for patients with chronic non-cancer pain to help them improve their own pain management. This is a multidisciplinary clinic which is consultant-led, and supported by a Staff Grade doctor, a Pain Nurse, a Pain Clinic pharmacist, and a psychologist.
