Modernisation: New Hospitals & Services

Acute Monitoring Groups

Patients, staff and local MSPs were given a say in service redesign and implementation of Glasgow's Acute Services Plan with the establishment of two monitoring groups in April 2003. The key role of the groups is to ensure that 'named' services at Stobhill Hospital and the Victoria Infirmary remain on each site prior to modernised facilities and new services being put in place.

When the groups were launched, the then Deputy Health Minister, Frank McAveety, said:

"These groups take forward our commitment in the White Paper, Partnership for Care, to have patients and staff involved at an early stage in discussions about the changing patterns of health care services that are required in particular localities.

"(They) give all stakeholders an opportunity to be involved in service redesign and other key aspects of the Acute Services Plan. Local people and clinicians will work together to make sure that Glasgow gets the services it needs."

The groups meet every four months.
