Since 1980 Cancer Support Scotland has helped thousands of patients as they cope with the emotional and practical difficulties which cancer brings. Later this summer (2012) we will move into our new flagship Calman Cancer Support Centre in the grounds of Gartnavel Hospital. The B-listed former Gartnavel Chapel will give us the space to treble our capacity and directly help around 1,400 people every year.
We currently offer free complementary therapies including Aromatherapy, Reiki, Hot Stone Therapy, Indian Head Massages and Reflexology. In addition you can speak to one of our talking therapists. We also have a number of support groups and a library of up-to-date information. We are fully aware cancer does not just affect the patient but also those living around them. For that reason our services are open to family, friends and carers as well.
Moving into our new building will mean we can continue to offer all this, plus more. As the rate of cancer grows in Scotland it is vitally important we do not sit back, and that we continue to introduce new and innovative ways of supporting those affected by the disease. As such service users will soon benefit from our Befriending service, Hair, Nail and Foot salon and a peaceful courtyard garden, along with Skype Talking Therapy allowing us to reach those in outlying areas.
