The Glasgow Medical Humanities Unit is based at the Gartnavel General Hospital. We aim to facilitate academic and applicative collaboration between medicine sciences and the humanities. In this we bridge the NHS and the University of Glasgow. It is the first unit of this type in Scotland.
Our major interest is effective communication within science and medicine, communication related to teaching, and the interface between healthcare professions, patients and the public.
We provide editorial service for the NHS and have a track record of design of clinical procedure handbooks for hospital staff for print and for the web.
Within the NHS, we also participate in the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board projects to create the network of artists interested in getting involved in health-related issues and in its current large program of hospital design.
The Unit provides innovative undergraduate and postgraduate teaching within the Medical Faculty of the University of Glasgow and is a Member of the University of Glasgow Institute for Art History. Our multidisciplinary teaching program currently involves academics from the Medical Faculty, the Faculty of the Arts and also artists associated with the University.
