Clinical Service The Department of Cytogenetics is part of a fully integrated genetics service based at the Southern General Hospital, which serves a population of approximately 3 million in the West of Scotland. It provides a fully comprehensive chromosome analysis service for both constitutional and acquired abnormalities using a full range of standard cytogenetic techniques as well as molecular cytogenetic technology. The Department is sub-divided into three sections, (Constitutional cytogenetics, Cancer cytogenetics and Molecular cytogenetics) each one being overseen by a Principal Scientist who is in charge of the day-to-day running of the section.
Opening Hours The normal working hours for the laboratory are:- Monday to Friday: 09:00 – 17:00
Saturday: 09:00 – 12:00 This includes all local and bank holidays with the exception of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day when the department is closed.
