Single item virology requests which provide multiple results:

"Resp virus / Mycoplasma / Pertussis PCR"

by Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction testing for current infection:

Influenza A (including the H275Y oseltamivir resistance mutation), influenza B, respiratory syncitial virus (RSV), human metapneumovirus (HuMP), parainfluenza-1/2/3/4, coronavirus, rhinovirus / enterovirus, adenovirus, Bordetella pertussis and Mycoplasma pneumoniae

"BAL screen ( Resp virus / PCP / CMV / Pertussis )" by Real Time Polymerase Chain Reaction testing for current infection:

Pneumocystis jirovecii, cytomegalovirus, Bordetella pertussis, influenza A (including the H275Y oseltamivir resistance mutation), influenza B, respiratory syncitial virus (RSV), human metapneumovirus (HuMP), parainfluenza-1/2/3/4, coronavirus, rhinovirus / enterovirus, adenovirus and Mycoplasma pneumoniae

Please note: Best sample for sensitivity: BAL (immunofluorescence (IF) possible) > induced sputum (IF possible) > sputum (IF NOT available) > gargle (immunofluorescence NOT available) worst sample for sensitivity. Gargle samples should only be used in unstable patients who are not capable of tolerating a BAL and are not producing respiratory secretions.
