A managed clinical network (MCN) for diabetes services in Greater Glasgow and Clyde was established in 2004.
The structure of the MCN includes an MCN Steering Group, an MCN Executive group as well as a range of Working Groups established to address particular issues. This includes groups to address, for example, inpatient diabetes care, the interface between primary and secondary care services, patient education, or the needs of patients from ethnic minority backgrounds.
The main role of the MCN Steering Group is to make strategic recommendations to the Board about the development of diabetes services. Meetings of the MCN Steering Group are held quarterly. The MCN Executive Group is a smaller group with responsibility for ensuring that the decisions reached by the Steering Group will be put into effect. The MCN Executive Group meets every two months.
The lead clinician for the Diabetes MCN is Dr Brian Kennon, a Consultant Diabetologist at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.
The Coordinator for the Diabetes MCN is Gillian Kinstrie.
