NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Statement on Gartnavel General Hospital

Tuesday, March 6, 2018

There are media reports today that a ceiling has collapsed at Gartnavel General Hospital - this is NOT the case.

External contractors were carrying out planned asbestos removal from a non-patient area in Gartnavel General Hospital this morning.

During this work dust triggered a fire alarm, the Fire Service attended and we are currently carrying precautionary air quality tests to establish if there is any asbestos contamination.

As a precautionary measure movement of patients and staff on both level 8 and the floor below have been restricted until the test results are known - which should be known early afternoon.

Patient care continues to be provided to all patients in the wards on level 7 and 8 and the rest of the hospital is operating normally.
