TWO TOP DESIGN AWARDS IN TWO DAYS FOR NEW EASTWOOD HEALTH AND CARE CENTRE

Thursday, June 15, 2017

The new Eastwood Health and Care Centre in Clarkston which opened last summer, has had a great week...scooping two prestigious design awards in two days.

The first accolade came on Tuesday evening at the European Healthcare Awards.

The £15m state of the art building in East Renfrewshire won a design award for buildings under 25,000 sq feet and beat off stiff competition from others including a new cancer hospital at Guy’s hospital in London.

On Wednesday evening in Edinburgh, it was the turn of the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) to bestow an award on the new centre, which picked up one of its main awards.

The Health and Care Centre was officially opened by the Minister for Public Health and Sport, Aileen Campbell in October and houses many social care services and provides space for voluntary groups of all kinds.

David Loudon, Director of Property, Procurement & Facilities Management at NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said: “We are delighted that Eastwood Health & Care Centre has won these two awards – and in such a short space of time! The project represents the best of architectural design to deliver a brief that was based upon service improvement, integration and new ways of working.

“Eastwood was developed as the Reference Design for Primary Care Centres in Scotland, and the award is another endorsement of its approach and quality. It has already won the Health Facilities Scotland Design Award, been shortlisted in the Building Better Healthcare Awards and the RIAS awards.  More importantly the feedback from users and staff has been fantastic.”

Caroline Bamforth, East Renfrewshire Councillor and Chair of the East Renfrewshire Integrated Joint Board, said: “We are delighted that the Eastwood Health and Care Centre has been recognised in this way. It is a fantastic state-of-the-art facility, bringing together health and social care services under the one roof for the first time in Eastwood. The busy community café on the ground floor also makes it a great community hub for local people. This is an award and indeed a facility that we are extremely proud of.”
