Staff at the Victoria Infirmary will find new faces around the hospital this month as a group of colleagues proudly sprout and twirl moustaches for “Movember.”

Leading the facial hair charge is theatre nurse Craig Robinson, captain of the 14-strong Victoria Moustache Brigade of theatre staff.

Craig said: “We all decided to do this for a couple of reasons. First of all it is a really good cause because prostrate and testicular in men is really worth raising awareness of and raising money for.

“And because of our jobs we know how important it is for men to closely monitor their health for any signs that could suggest the beginnings of something potentially serious.

“Plus it is the second time we have supported Movember and we have all found it really good for morale and camaraderie.

“Everyone in the department has been really supportive of us Mo Bros and our female team members, or Mo Sistas, have come up with other fundraising suggestions including bringing in home-baking to sell and maybe organise a raffle or two.”

Craig added: “If we could raise £1000 that would be perfect!”

Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health.

Movember is a moustache growing charity event held every November to raise funds and awareness specifically about prostate cancer and other cancers that affect men.
