Jane Grant, NHSGGC Acute Division Chief operating Officer, has praised hard working staff for their contribution to the best ever waiting times performance that the NHS in Scotland has ever seen.

Snapshot figures released by ISD Scotland this week show that 99.8 per cent of patients in Scotland were waiting less than nine weeks for inpatient and day case treatment.

The new figures mean that NHS Scotland continues to exceed the national waiting times standard of 12 weeks for inpatient and day case treatment

Jane Grant said: “NHSGGC is the largest health board in Scotland. We provide services to a core population of 1.2million and provide specialist regional services to more than half the country's population.

“Both clinical teams and managers have worked tirelessly across NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to enable us to exceed many of our waiting times targets, and as a result thousands of patients have benefited through earlier treatment.

“These tough targets continue to be achieved through the new ways of working and the ongoing re-design of how we deliver our services to patients in hospitals, clinics and in the community.

“Continuing to meet these targets is particularly pleasing when viewed in the context that we treated some 271,000 inpatients, 403,000 new outpatients and 148,000 day cases in 2009/10.

“Staff should be proud of their mammoth efforts the results of which are borne out by these latest very positive national statistics.”
