Local people are being offered the chance to tour one of the most modern hospitals in the UK – and it’s right on their doorstep!

The “keys” have been handed over by the builder and now NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are working intensively over the next few weeks fitting out the new hospital in advance of the first patients coming in.

Meanwhile NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is offering tours of the new £100 million Stobhill Hospital, but locals will have to be quick off the mark because attendance will be by pre-registration only on and on a first come, first served basis.

The special tours introducing the new Stobhill to the local community will take place on Saturday April 25 between 10.00 am and 3.00 pm, setting off every 15 minutes and lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Alex McIntyre, NHSGGC’s Director of Facilities, said: “To familiarise the public now about how to use their new hospital a number of measures have been taken.

“These include, an essential guide on how to make best use of the hospital being produced and distributed to households in the catchment area, plus credit card sized patient information brochures on how to use the Minor Injuries Unit.

“This is all part of our commitment to make the community’s new hospital as user friendly as possible.”

Stobhill will be one of Scotland’s largest hospitals, covering four floors and an area the size of 30,000 square metres, when it opens this summer.

It will provide a wide range of outpatient clinics, day surgery and diagnostic services and specialist health services such as cardiology, renal dialysis and gynaecology.

And there are also 12 beds for short stay surgical patients enabling clinicians to extend the range of surgical procedures offered.

The new hospital will also include a Minor Injuries Unit which will be open between 9.00am and 9.00pm seven days a week and will be staffed by Emergency Nurse Practitioners (ENPs).
