A ‘Gold Standard’ weight management service, already winning awards in Glasgow, is now tackling obesity in the Clyde area.
The Glasgow and Clyde Weight Management Service has been rolled out across Clyde and is now offering a co-ordinated approach to weight management for patients who have referred by their GP to the service in Paisley, Dumbarton, Greenock and the surrounding areas.
A multi-disciplinary team including dieticians, clinical psychologists and physiotherapists offer support for patients as they develop skills to manage their weight. The team also tackles the psychological issues that can contribute to weight problems.
The service has been up and running in Glasgow since 2005 and has already won the National Obesity Forum ‘Primary Care Awards for Excellence in Weight Management’ for its comprehensive and evidence based approach to weight management.
Lorna Forde, Service Lead, is delighted the service now has a base in Paisley. She said: “The new Clyde service is based in the Sir James Clark Building at the Abbey Mill Business Centre in Paisley and is an ideal location to set up a dedicated weight management service. ‘
“We know that simple, short term solutions to the problem of obesity rarely work and what is required is a comprehensive approach. This service offers that approach and has been developed on strong evidence –based multi-disciplinary framework to ensure patients develop weight management skills for the long-term.”
