We note the outcome of today’s Health Professions Council hearing and look forward to receiving their detailed conclusions.

As soon as this incident occurred in 2006 the Health Board carried out its own internal investigation. In addition, the warranted inspector, Dr Arthur Johnston, carried out his own detailed formal investigation and concluded at the time that there were failures in systems and key areas that needed to be addressed.

Every single action and recommendation following Dr Arthur Johnston’s investigation has been fully implemented and indeed he has written to the Health Board to confirm he is content that we have met all his requirements. Subsequent to this he has also made follow-up visits to the Beatson where he has confirmed his ongoing satisfaction that the new systems are being maintained for the benefit of patients.

Following the incident Dr Stuart McNee, Consultant Clinical Physicist, was transferred to another substantive post within the radiotherapy physics team. Dr McNee’s current duties do not involve direct patient care.

This patient incident has been extremely traumatic for all involved, especially the Norris family.

Following today’s hearing Dr McNee has stated that he wishes to make no further comment.
