Work has begun on the new £2.7 million Plean Street Clinic in Yoker.

A partnership project between NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde’s Oral Health Directorate and West Glasgow Community Health and Care Partnership (CHCP), the new facility will replace the existing single dental surgery with eight, state-of-the art surgeries spread over two floors, and a community podiatry clinic providing quality standards of care for patients.

Terry Findlay, Director of West Glasgow CHCP, said:  “This state-of-the-art new facility will not only deliver improved dental services, but also a wide range of community services and clinics to the local population.”

Dental services at the new centre, which is due to open in May, 2008, will be delivered by senior dentists supported by a team of hygienists, therapists and dental nurses.

A number of the surgeries will also be used to provide outreach clinical training for final year Glasgow University dental students who will treat adults.

Childsmile, a new service to encourage improved dental registration and care for children will be provided jointly by the Dental service

Plean Street will also provide a modern office base for Health Visitors, District Nurses and Health Improvement staff.
