Inverclyde GP Surgeries to Close for Training on Afternoon of 12th September

August 28, 2007 5:39 PM

GP practices in Gourock, Greenock, Port Glasgow and Kilmacolm will be closed for staff training on the afternoon of Wednesday 12th September from 1pm. All other non-GP services in health centres and clinics throughout Inverclyde will be running as normal.

NHS 24 - 08454 24 24 24 - will be in operation during this period for any health queries and the public are advised that in a life-threatening emergency they should always dial 999 for an ambulance.

Alan Buckley, Head of Health & Community Care at the Inverclyde Community Health Partnership (CHP) said: “GP practices are always looking at ways that they can improve the care they are able to offer their patients.  As change develops within GP practices and in nursing, the training and development of staff needs to be addressed.

“GP practices and their staff do not often get the chance to learn and develop their skills and knowledge together.  NHS 24 have now given GP practices in Inverclyde the opportunity to get together to address staff training requirements; and develop training sessions to suit the needs of the patient, GP practice and changing systems and legislation.

“GP practices in Inverclyde will be closing on Wednesday 12th September from 1pm for staff training. Practices will not re-open until Thursday 13th September, at normal surgery hours.

“If patients require urgent attention from a doctor between 1pm on Wednesday 12th September and 8.00am on Thursday 13th September they should contact: NHS 24 by telephone on 08454 24 24 24.  NHS 24 also have a website, www.nhs24.com. In a life-threatening emergency they should dial 999 for an ambulance as usual.”
