NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde decides to temporarily delay roll out of car parking charges

November 22, 2007 8:57 PM

There have been a number of parliamentary and public concerns about the timing of the roll out of the next phase of our car parking policy.

The second phase of the policy roll out is due to take place just days before the publication of the national review of car parking guidance. There are also some aspects of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's green transport policy not yet in place.

In the light of these concerns - and following discussion with the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Wellbeing - we have decided to temporarily delay the extension of the policy which was due to occur this weekend on the Stobhill and Southern General sites.

This decision does not affect our commitment to full implementation of the policy.

The policy's primary purpose is to ensure that patients and disabled drivers are able to park on our hospital sites. It is working very well on the sites where it has already been introduced. The principle of charging for car parking to achieve these objectives was endorsed by the Cabinet Secretary in launching her review.
