STATEMENT IN RESPONSE TO ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH CONCERNS AT THE SOUTHERN GENERAL

September 30, 2005 10:00 AM

Pest control is taken extremely seriously. Two cockroaches were found but this was dealt with immediately. Pest control inspections are regularly carried out on all our facilities by a reputable pest control company and any issues found are addressed without delay.

We are already carrying out remedial works to repair a steam leak under the floor of the kitchen which appears to have been the source of the presence of filter flies.

All food at the Southern General is cooked above the minimum temperature requirement. The temperature of food arriving at the wards is constantly monitored and £100,000 is currently being invested to further improve the food distribution service.

Glasgow City Council's Environmental Health Department are satisfied with the measures taken to address the issues raised in the report and gave the following statement: ""They co-operated with our requests for action so no formal measures were required."
