Statement on preferred bidder process

A spokesperson for NHS Greater Glasgow said: "We are delighted to have appointed the Canmore Consortium as preferred bidder for our new multi-million hospitals at Stobhill and Victoria. These state-of-the-art hospitals will revolutionise our approach to caring for patients undergoing everything from one-off medical investigations to regular, ongoing appointments for chronic problems.

"Each hospital will treat around 400,000 patients every year and will be amongst Scotland's largest hospitals covering 30,000 square metres.

"With this project, we found ourselves in an unusual situation of having only one bidder tender for the contract. We therefore worked with Ernst and Young, our Financial Advisors on the project, to develop a ‘shadow bid' against which we were able test the financial viability of the bid from the Consortium.

"Getting to the stage of preferred bidder has taken several months. Working closely with Ernst and Young and our external auditors at every stage of the process, we have been able to satisfy ourselves, the external auditors and the Scottish Executive that the Consortium will deliver value for money in the construction of these new hospitals."

Ends.
