STATEMENT ON STOMACH BUG IN SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOL

December 01, 2004 11:51 AM

The Public Health Protection Unit of NHS Greater Glasgow can confirm it is investigating the outbreak of a stomach bug involving 13 children and two teachers at a special needs school.

Early indications strongly suggest that the children and teachers are suffering from a common viral infection. Eight of the cases are fully recovered and are back at school, the rest are recovering at home.

A spokesperson said: "We strongly suspect that it's a virus that's behind the illness in the children, although we are still awaiting the results of tests to establish the cause.

"None of the children are giving any cause for concern, none were hospitalised and all are recovering well."
