NHS GREATER GLASGOW STATEMENT ON TREATMENT FOR MS SUFFERERS

June 27, 2003 1:41 PM

The assessment of MS patients for Beta Interferon treatment will continue for Glasgow patients.  We have increased the number of patients being treated by Beta Interferon from 9 to 75 in the past year. There are currently 71 patients awaiting assessment for suitability of Beta Interferon treatment and funding the cost of treating those who are assessed as suitable for beneficial treatment will have to be met from our existing budget.

We will now re-examine our planned programme of service improvements for this financial year and identify ways of re-couping around £600,000 by delaying the start of some projects by a number of months - but not into next year.
